For the third consecutive year, the Minera Aurífera Cuatro de Enero Sociedad Anónima, MACDESA, located in Arequipa, Peru, has achieved certification under the Fairmined Standard.
“On the behalf of the Alliance for Responsible Mining, we have received training for the Standard: labor rights, respect for the environment, the importance of no child labor and gender equality,” says Santiago Ramírez, a MACDESA partner.
These learnings have allowed MACDESA to refine its practices towards sustainable and responsible mining, improving the working and safety conditions of its workers.
TRANSFORMING MINING COMMUNITIES
Likewise, with the Premium, MACDESA has contributed to improving the working conditions of the women ore selection workers, who operate within the mining concession, helping them to develop another work alternatives, with a uniform manufacturing company, which provides services to the mining organization.
“I tell our fellow miners that the path to their development is certification. With this they will be able to develop; as MACDESA has achieved ”, is Santiago Ramírez’s message to other mining organizations.
